The German Theatre organises the European Theatre Festival EUROTHALIA
A week of intercultural dialogue - November 13th - 21st
The German State Theatre Timisoara (GSTT) organises between November 13th -21st 2010 the second edition of the European Theatre Festival "EUROTHALIA". The objective of the project is to dedicate spaces to the creation of a favourable framework of free exchange of ideas between East and West, characterized by the multiethnic and multicultural spirit of this region.
The festival brings together this year in Timisoara some of the most appreciated theatre productions from Romania and other European cultural areas, despite the fact that the size of the project had to be adapted to the current financial circumstances.
The festival opens November 13th, 2010 at 18.30 with the play SOLD OUT, a production of the renowned Münchner Kammerspiele, adapted and directed by Gianina Cărbunariu. The author depicts in this authentic example of documentary theatre one of the most interesting episodes in Romania's recent history, that is the "sale" of a considerable number of Germans and Jews by the communist state.
The festival offers the opportunity of viewing the creations of some of the most valued directors in Romania and abroad, such as Radu Afrim, Alexandru Dabija, Alexander Hausvater, Radu Alexandru Nica and Andrei Şerban, together with performances of Waidspeicher Erfurt Theater (Germany) and Opole Theatre (Poland). A section of studio performances including productions from Munich and Arad, a concert of Mike Godoroja and the exhibition "Foto/Sceno/Grafii" further define the diversity of the nine-day festival.
The "Eurothalia" Festival was created in 2009 at the initiative of the German State Theatre in Timisoara, as a result of the success of the institution's 55th anniversary.
The program of the festival can be downloaded here. Tickets will be available beginning with October 20th, 2010 at the German Theatre Agency on 2 Alba Iulia Street. For additional information please visit www.eurothalia.ro and www.teatrulgerman.ro.
The main sponsors of the Festival are Timisoara Municipality and The Department for Interethnic Relations within the Government General Secretariat. The project is also supported by The Embassy and Consulate of the German Federal Republic, by The Romanian National Opera House, by The National Theatre and Hungarian State Theatre, as well as by numerous sponsors and partners.
